UBC (used beverage cans) — discount band
UBC bales typically trade at $250–$450/MT below LME 3M aluminium. The tighter end applies to high-density bales (480+ kg/m³) shipping to nearby destinations (Mersin, Mundra). The wider end applies to lower-density bales, distant ports (Busan), and lots with higher PET contamination tolerance. Multi-container parcels and break-bulk shipments earn a tighter discount.
6063 extrusion scrap (Tata / Tutu) — discount band
Clean 6063 architectural extrusion off-cuts trade at $300–$500/MT below LME 3M. The tight band reflects predictable AA6063 chemistry (0.4–0.9% Mg, 0.2–0.6% Si) that billet casters in India, Turkey and the Middle East can charge directly into the melt without complex blending. Painted 6063 trades at a wider discount.
6061 structural scrap — discount band
6061 structural off-cuts trade at $350–$550/MT below LME 3M. The slightly wider discount captures the higher copper and magnesium content (0.4–1.2% Mg, 0.15–0.4% Cu) that requires the buyer to dilute or accept it as alloy feedstock for forging shops. Premium for clean, segregated 6061 from aerospace and structural fabricators.
Taint/Tabor (mixed low-copper) — discount band
ISRI Taint/Tabor mixed clean low-copper aluminium trades at $400–$650/MT below LME 3M. Discount captures the chemistry uncertainty — Taint (1% Cu max) and Tabor (3% Cu max) cover a wide range of mixed aluminium that requires the secondary smelter to blend with primary or low-Cu master alloy to hit final spec.
Tense (clean mixed) — discount band
Tense — clean mixed old aluminium — trades at $450–$700/MT below LME 3M. Slightly wider than Taint/Tabor because Tense is post-consumer rather than industrial, with broader contamination tolerance for siding, gutter, etc. Suitable for deox and basic secondary applications.
Troma aluminium wheels — discount band
Troma — ELV aluminium wheels — trade at $300–$500/MT below LME 3M. The tight discount reflects the predictable A356.2 base alloy (7% Si, 0.35% Mg) and the strong demand from wheel-back-to-wheel recyclers in India, Korea and Turkey who pay close to UBC pricing for clean Troma.
Aluminium turnings (Telic) — discount band
ISRI Telic turnings trade at $500–$900/MT below LME 3M. Wider discount captures the lower density (~3 MT per 20GP loose), higher oxide content and frequent residual cutting oil that requires the buyer to dry, degrease and briquette before charging.
Aluminium dross — recovery-based pricing
Aluminium dross is priced not on gross weight but on metallic content × LME 3M minus processing discount. Typical white dross recovers 50–70% metallic; black dross 30–50%. Processing discount $300–$600/MT. Buyers are dross processors and salt-slag recyclers in India and the Gulf.
What moves aluminium discounts
Five drivers: (1) Midwest/Rotterdam aluminium premium movements; (2) freight to destination; (3) regional secondary smelter capacity utilisation (India and Turkey); (4) Chinese aluminium scrap import policy and category code changes; (5) UBC-specific: deposit-return collection volume in Europe.
