HMS 1 (Heavy Melting Steel 1) is unprepared or prepared heavy steel scrap with a minimum thickness of 6 mm (1/4 inch), free of attachments such as copper, alloys, or excessive rust. European HMS 1 originates primarily from structural demolition, shipbreaking, and heavy industrial cut-offs, giving consistent chemistry suitable for high-quality billet production in EAF and induction furnaces.
HMS 2 is lighter heavy melting steel with a minimum 3 mm thickness, accepting some galvanised material and minor coatings. As an HMS 2 scrap Europe source, we provide containerised and bulk parcels graded per ISRI 200/201 specifications.
Most South Asian and MENA mills order HMS 1&2 in 80:20 (80% HMS 1, 20% HMS 2) or 70:30 ratios. Nautica blends to either ratio at the Rotterdam yard, with weight verification per truck before container or vessel loading, ensuring buyers receive the contracted blend ratio rather than nominal estimates.
Container HMS (typically 20GP, ≈26–28 MT payload) suits buyers needing 200–2,000 MT per shipment with weekly arrivals. Bulk vessel HMS (Handysize/Supramax/Panamax, 5,000–50,000 MT) suits integrated mills running full melt programmes; freight per MT is significantly lower for bulk but draft and discharge facility constraints apply at the destination.
