ISRI 304 / 316 Specifications

    Stainless Steel Scrap Supplier

Nautica Metal Scrap B.V. supplies stainless steel scrap — 304 (18-8 chrome-nickel) and 316 (18-10-2 chrome-nickel-moly) — in solid and turning preparations. Material is XRF-tested at our Rotterdam yard, magnet-checked for ferritic contamination and loaded CIF/FOB to melt shops and re-rollers worldwide.

    Grades available

304 / 18-8 stainless solids: 18–20% Cr, 8–10.5% Ni, balance Fe; ideal for re-melters producing 304 sheet and bar. 316 / 18-10-2 Mo stainless solids: 16–18% Cr, 10–14% Ni, 2–3% Mo; premium grade for chemical-resistant applications. 304/316 mixed turnings: dry, oil-free, loose-loaded. 309/310/321/410 specialty grades available on request from European specialty mill arisings.

    ISRI specifications

We trade to ISRI 'Stainless Steel Scrap, 18-8' for 304 solids (minimum 7% Ni and 16% Cr, free of foreign attachments). 316 solids trade under the equivalent '18-10-2 Mo' clause. Turnings trade under 'Stainless Steel Turnings, 18-8' or '18-10-2 Mo' — dry, free of oil and grease, unbriquetted unless otherwise agreed. Every contract names the ISRI clause verbatim.

    XRF analysis and segregation

Each inbound lot is XRF-scanned at multiple points to verify chemistry, then magnet-tested for ferritic contamination. 304 and 316 are kept in separate bays; turnings are segregated from solids; oil-contaminated turnings are degreased before loading. Pre-shipment inspection by SGS, BV or Intertek is available — the inspector witnesses XRF re-checks and container stuffing.

    Packaging

Solids load loose in 20GP at ~22 MT per box. Turnings load loose at ~20 MT (lower density). 1-ton bulk bags are available on request for buyers feeding material via hopper. Containers are floor-lined, photo-documented and sealed; seal numbers print on packing list.

    Export documentation

Each shipment ships with commercial invoice, packing list, B/L, weight tickets, EUR.1 origin certificate where applicable, Annex VII for non-OECD destinations, XRF analysis report and inspection certificate. Indian buyers receive BIS-format docs; Turkish buyers TSE-aligned papers; Chinese buyers CCIC-compliant docs.

    Pricing — LME nickel-linked

Stainless scrap is priced as a function of contained nickel, chromium and iron value. The dominant component is LME 3M nickel × nickel content × recovery factor, minus a stainless-scrap discount that varies $400–$1,200/MT by grade and prep. 316 commands a premium over 304 because of its molybdenum content (Mo is paid separately at a published platts rate).

    Destinations

Primary buyers: Indian induction-furnace mills (Nhava Sheva, Mundra, Mumbai), Turkish stainless re-rollers (Mersin, Aliağa), Chinese stainless producers (Shanghai, Tianjin), Korean specialty mills (Busan). Weekly direct sailings from Rotterdam on Maersk, MSC, CMA-CGM and ONE.

Source — European specialty mill and fabricator arisings

Our 304/316 stream comes from European specialty stainless mill cut-offs, kitchen-equipment fabricators, dairy/chemical processing plant decommissioning and food-grade tank dismantling. Provenance is documented per ISO 9001 traceability and available on audit request.

    Order process

RFQ specifying grade (304/316), prep (solid/turning), tonnage, destination, payment terms → written CIF/FOB offer within 24h with LME nickel reference locked → contract → 30% TT → loading + inspection in 7–14 days → 70% LC or TT against scanned docs → originals released.

    Quality guarantee

If discharge-port XRF analysis shows nickel content falling more than 0.5% below the contracted 18-8 or 18-10-2 spec, Nautica credits the difference at the contract discount. This contractual backing has driven a >75% repeat-buyer rate on stainless contracts.
